Help improve communication and wellbeing for adults with hearing loss
About this research
'ACE Your Hearing' is a newly re-developed small-group program designed to help adults with hearing loss and their families improve their communication and wellbeing.
Who can participate
You're eligible to participate in this study if you:
- are over 50 years of age
- have experienced hearing difficulties later in life (whether or not you wear hearing aids)
- have sufficient English skills to comfortably participate in a group discussion.
Or you:
- are over 18 years of age
- are a family member or close friend of an adult with hearing loss
- have sufficient English skills to comfortably participate in a group discussion.
What's involved
As part of the study you’ll:
- attend a small-group program (approximately 2 hours per session) at The University of Queensland's St Lucia campus, group formats and sessions vary, and you will be randomly assigned
- complete a few short questionnaires before and after the group program, and again 3 months later.

- practical strategies and support for improving communication and connection
- full access to all program materials, booklets, and videos
- access to the program free of charge (there is usually a fee of $150)
- a $25 Coles-Myer gift voucher for completing the questionnaires.

This study has been approved by The University of Queensland Human Research Ethics Committee [Approval No.2023/HE000292].
