UQ alumni event - Ancient Egypt talk and tour

Hear about ancient Egyptian mummies from Honorary Research Fellow Dr Serena Love and join us for a private viewing of the Discovering Ancient Egypt exhibition. Dr Love will answer any questions as you explore the exhibition. Experience 3D light projections of the Temple of Taffeh, ornate sculptures and design, excerpts from sacred ceremonies including rare Book of the Dead scrolls, precious jewellery, and collections of artefacts and artwork.

Step up to one of 10 Zeiss microscopes to discover the hidden micro-worlds around us, revealing microscopic mysteries you’ve never seen before. This interactive experience is perfect for science enthusiasts of all ages. Attend a pop-up session with experts from QBiotics and UQ's Institute of Molecular Bioscience who will bring you closer to the science that shapes our world. Dive in and let the wonders of the microscopic universe amaze you!

Cutting Edge: Exploring the Fabric of Science and Artisanal Design

Explore the connection between fashion and science in a conversation around boundary-pushing project Cutting Edge by Fashion Queensland and the UQ’s Institute for Molecular Bioscience (IMB). Cutting Edge engaged 5 Queensland fashion designers to create works inspired by the latest in scientific research at the IMB. Listen to the designers as they discuss with scientists how everything from funnel web spider venom to plant medicine impacted their creations.

Every year, the global population grows, bringing with it an increasing demand for food. Can we grow enough to feed this burgeoning population? Scientists are exploring a wide range of solutions to this challenge. ABC Radio National’s Jonathan Webb leads a panel, including UQ experts Professor Heather Smyth and Dr Luke Williams, to discuss native foods, vertical farming, enhancing crop yields, and even the potential of synthetic biology to revolutionise food production.
